Workforce Housing Preservation Program helps local workers secure housing by providing 16% or up to $150,000 of the home’s listing price. In exchange, the home is deed-restricted for 55 years so that only qualified local workers can occupy the residence. The National Association of Conservation Districts

The National Association of Conservation Districts Stewardship Week, an annual program since 1955, stands as one of the nation’s largest initiatives dedicated to promoting the conservation of natural resources. Occurring between the last Sunday in April and the first Sunday in May, this week-long event serves as a powerful reminder of our personal responsibilities to safeguard our precious natural resources.

In 2024, as we celebrate the 69th Annual Stewardship Week from April 28 to May 5, the theme “May the Forest Be with You, Always” takes center stage. This theme underscores the critical interplay between soil and water conservation and the resilience of our forests. Forests play multifaceted roles in sustaining our planet, serving as sources of oxygen, carbon storage, and vibrant hubs of biodiversity. They function as steadfast protectors of soil and water resources, preventing erosion, purifying contaminants, and nurturing healthy watersheds.

In today’s context, marked by environmental challenges, resilient forests are indispensable in fostering a sustainable world. The phrase “May the Forest Be with You, Always” signifies our commitment to responsible forest stewardship, emphasizing their enduring strength and adaptability.

Denim Day is a campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, what started as a local campaign to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement. As the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history, Denim Day asks community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. #GearUp4DenimDay #DenimDay

At the recommendation of the committees it convenes, the North Tahoe Community Alliance Board of Directors voted to invest a total of $4.3 million in TOT-TBID Dollars At Work funding through the 2024 Annual Grant Cycle into 13 projects that benefit the North Lake Tahoe community. To date, the TOT-TBID Dollars At Work program has reinvested over $21.3 million in North Lake Tahoe and leveraged an additional match of over $29 million for a total investment of over $40 million in the Multi-Year Sponsorship and Annual Grant funding cycles to support projects and programs in the North Lake Tahoe Community.

The next Annual Grant Cycle will launch in early Fall 2024. Learn more about the projects that have been funded and how the TOT-TBID Dollars At Work program supports a vibrant, year-round economy in North Lake Tahoe at an open house event on May 16 from 4-6pm at the Boatworks Mall at Lake Tahoe.

At the recommendation of the volunteer Business and Chamber Advisory Committee, the North Tahoe Community Alliance Board of Directors awarded $267,500 in sponsorship funding, generated by the North Lake Tahoe Tourism Business Improvement District (NLT-TBID), to 12 more events scheduled to take place in North Lake Tahoe in 2024.

Scoring and funding prioritization were based on how the events contribute to and benefit economic health, community vitality and environmental stewardship. Each event’s traffic management and sustainability plans were also evaluated, with organizers responsible for identifying and outlining how they will mitigate the impacts of the event.
